We too have had an unusally big population of spiders this year MK. We have several diff kinds as usual - but this year, there are more 2-3" Zipper Spiders than ever before.
Zippy
Each one seems to claim a territory and stay there for life and there seems to be a zipper territory in every bed this year instead of just 2 or 3.
Zippy in above pic lives here - his zipper in the web is just to the left of the left chair arm.
zippy gazebo
Even tho they are not dangerous, no one wants to go thru the doorway with him there. Now even the cats go between the bars, instead of using the door opening.

Is there anything worse than cobwebs on the skin, and the thought of the spider being on you too!?

That's a great picture Maggie. I don't think I've ever seen a web like that before.

I've been trying to get butterfly pictures, but they never hold still long enough for my slow reflexes to snap the pic. Might have to go to the movie camera then clip a still from it. Unless I can get Maggie to charm them for me like she does the birds.

Maggie's spider picture has me grabbing my camera and going in search of webs with the morning dew. :)

I heard something on tv recently about scientist trying to duplicate the properties of spider webs in the lab. Its strength per molecule would make a fabric more protective than the kevlar(?) now used in bullet proof vests. Since hummingbirds use webs in their nest-building, I guess they already new that :)
