MamaKane has updated her pages to follow the changes of the colors this fall and invited us to witness it with her.

Always a treat to visit your lovely country home and gardens MK, thank you.

And the latest on MK's tamed wild deer - they've even accepted dear sweet Missy dog into the fold!

MK says the colors have been great this year and has promised to post more autumn pics for us soon.
In the meantime, here's the latest from her pet herd ...
fawn
a piebald fawn!

This is news to me, so I dug around for more info on it for us. Here are some excerpts found on the web ...

“a genetic trait that occurs once in every 3,000-4,000 adults. The incidence rate increases if the deer is allowed to breed, increasing the piebald gene presence in the gene pool.
Many do not survive to adulthood and of those that do a good number look like goats. Some, however, remain quite normal and develop good racks.” Dave Henderson, Ithaca, Tompkins County and the Finger Lakes region

“ …piebald deer. This is a naturally-occurring genetic defect in white-tailed deer. Generally, less than 1 percent of deer are born with this condition, although the numbers may be higher if the population is lightly hunted or not hunted at all. While piebald and normal deer can breed and produce fawns, two piebald deer will not produce offspring if they mate.”
Jonathan Day, forest systems coordinator, from Kentucky Afield Magazine

And this site has some pics of other beautiful piebald residents of Maryland. Scroll down the page for the pics. I love their given names!

Thanks for the info on the piebalds Maggie. Ray & I both enjoyed it. We even recognized many of the locations they were sited from the Maryland webpage - near where we used to live. I had not seen a Piebald until we moved here. I hate to say it since all my deer are pets, but the pieblad deer are highly prized by the hunters - probably why so few survive to an extended adulthood.

As usual, I'm way behind in my web pages. I've taken the fall follow-up pictures but haven't put the pages together yet. We've had an unusally warm fall so far - so guess where I've been. You probably got it on the first try OUTSIDE in the GARDENS.

We had lots of rain November 19th causing our drive and lower field to flood. I did put a couple of pages together on this.

And the Rains Came

It's raining again today, with cold weather coming in, so any dry and warm weather you can send will be appreciated. I like this being out in the garden near the end of November.
