If someone knows how to deter peacocks from destroying a garden (both flowers and food!), please email me suggestions at lindaengle@flash.net. I do not want to harm them at all. I love them, but they eat everything!
HELP!!!
The problem with peacocks is that they can fly. If you have your garden areas fenced, you might try clipping one wing on each bird. Sometimes that will keep them from flying over the fences.
I have seen motion sensors advertised that are attached to garden hoses, which spray garden invaders. I haven't tried it, but that might be an option if wing clipping isn't feasible.
I had a friend who kept hers in a huge cage, enclosed with wire mesh and partially roofed. Probably not a good solution - esp since they are prob happier roaming around loose. and so beautiful doing so. Another gardener fenced in her garden and the peas lived in the wooded area down the road.
Cipping the wings sounds interesting Caro! And the hose spray sounds like a winner.
How many do you have Linda, and on what size of land?
PS I loved the thought of having one or two in this garden - but Caro soon discouraged me
Great alarm clocks Maggie, have you heard them first thing in the morning? They are really too big to contain, better to contain the areas you would rather keep them away from.
That was another thing Caro warned me of - the noise. I had heard them bellowing in the afternoon, but didn't realize they did morning rooster duty too. My suburban neighbors would just love that, wouldn't they !
I am so curious about Linda's situation. It must be somewhat rural and I am wondering what part of the country she is and why her neighbors (?) keep peacocks, and how many.
Someone who would rather remain un-named sent me another suggestion. .. an ancient recipe for peacock pie :-0 Says it was considered a delicacy by the aristos

Peacock pie is fighting back it would seem.
Okay, I think I got that pic working now,,, not that it really tells how to do the dastardly deed
But I love the image.
