Can Anyone Identify this Rose?

Maggies Garden Forum: Rose Board: Can Anyone Identify this Rose?

This is one of the mystery roses that came with my house. The canes seem to get to about 5' and arch out. The flowers are on a cluster on the ends of the canes. That's about all I can tell you about the roses.

Sorry Carolyn don't know that one, it looks good with all that sunshine falling on it. The leaves also look to be in very good condition and they are all the way down the stems.

Isn't that the strangest growth habit!? And the bloom is so sweet. If we can't get the ID, can I give it a 'working name' ? oh please oh please?

I assume that means you have already thought of a "working name" for the poor bizarre looking rose?

No, just thinking about it... Since the color looks yummy, and it is on a stick, how about 'Lolly' - Brit for Popsicle?
Anyone else wanna have a go? Or I could behave and look through tons of rose books to maybe find a pic of it with name. I know,,, I'll lend you the rose books!

Wait, with that white edging, this is better ... 'Iced Lolly'

can anyone even narrow it down to a class (?)? Gallica? Which ones produce roses on the ends?

I would venture Hybrid Tea (on a stick?)

I have been thinking that it might be one of the 'Flower Carpet' roses. While sourcing pics for comparison, I happened to see one of 'Flower Power', a modern German cluster-flowering floribunda. Yours seems to resemble it - even down to the 'iced edges'.

Maggie, is there a link to the Flower Carpet roses that I could look at? Its still a "mystery" rose to me. However, all the roses are blooming beautifully right now, except for one with the same growth habit as this one that has never, ever bloomed and right now has about 2 leaves, although the canes look ok. The dud one, I am going to cut back and move, and give it one more chance to do something. Its in a narrow bed between pool patio and house wall, and I think the bed is solid clay. I'll give the rose a little organic soil elsewhere and see what happens. If there's no improvement, I will introduce it to Mr. Shredder.

Here's Flower Carpet but that's not the one I thought was so similar to yours.
I think yours resembles a pic I found of 'Flower POWER' in a book - my wall of garden books is often faster than surfing for me.
Found the photo of Flower Power in 'Botanica Roses' encyclopedia. It is so complete that I use it more than any of my older rose books.
But I did surf for FPower pic on net without luck.

BTW, your favorite Home Depot usually brings the Flower Carpet in by the truck load. You may remember them by the trademark pink plastic pot.
