Question: Can anybody tell me, why the blooms of my (Austin) roses were very big in spring, now are quite small? Is this: too wet, too dry weather? a question of nutricion? (Excuse my English, I´m not very good at that - but I hope, it is understandable)
Thanks, Bä
Hello Bärbl
Where are you located and in what kind of climate?
Many factors can decrease rose bloom production. It would be difficult to decipher your situation. The heat really slows them down in my garden and I have been told by gardeners in So Africa that they experience the same in summer. Here, we have a big flush in spring, then sparse summer blooms, and another nice crop in autumn. Cooler night temperatures seem to be of significance.
Roses growing in ideal conditions can produce bloom flushes every 4 - 6 weeks. What a wonderful thought!
I have two climbers (Jackson & Perkins) and they are very healthy, green, growing well etc. but I have had them two years and they do not bloom. Does anyone know why?
What are the cultivar names, Gale, and where are you located?
How many hours of direct sun are they getting?
