Where to find an agarita . . .

Maggies Garden Forum: Plant Trades: Where to find an agarita . . .

By Janet Tompkins on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 6:38 pm: Edit Post

My husband and I would like to plant a few agarita bushes and don't know where to get them. Does anyone know a source in the Fort Worth area? Also, we were looking at a native Texas plant site and noticed the erect ephedra bush which is quite unique. We would like to find this too. We need plants that like very alkaline/poor soil.

Really enjoy the site!

Hi Janet, Sorry I don’t know of any local sources off hand. Have you tried Weston Gardens or Redenta’s?

Here is a Texas source for the
agarita plant

and one for
ephedra bush seeds

The Wasowski book Native Texas Plants has a chapter on the alkaline region of Texas known as the limestone Blacklands – most of the metroplex and further south.

Also, Scott Ogdens book titled Gardening Success with Difficult Soils has some good chapters on plants for alkaline/poor soil.

The urls to the books on Amazon are too long to format for a hyperlink on the forum, but here is a link to the Amazon search page where you can access the titles by author.
