I rec'd the following request by email today and am posting it for others to hopefully contribute to my reply.
From Mary:
My father recently passed away and I was given a gift of money to buy a plant, flowers or tree in his memory since he enjoyed gardening so much. I would like to know if there are any plants or flowers or trees with the name "Ernest" "Dad/Daddy or Father" or "Karst" Thank you for your help. Mary
My first thought was of 'Ernest Markum' clematis.
There is also a tropical bougainvillea named 'Barbara Karst'. I don't know where Mary is located, zone-wise.
Anyone have any other plant ideas????
I can't locate the thread where Nicola posted a plant name resource site.... anyone?
James in Amarillo sent us a trug full of plant search sites, that I shall add below.
Surfing thru a few, I found a couple more plants for you to consider Mary.
Euchiton japonicus
'Father-and-Child Plant'
Tradescantia ernestiana
'Ernest's Spiderwort'

Here are a few more
Lonicera nitida 'Ernest Wilson'
Acer davidii 'Ernest Wilson'
Aster novi-belgii 'Ernest Ballard'
Rhododendron 'Ernest Inman'
Rosa 'Ernest H.Morse'
There should be quite a few more plants named Ernest Wilson after the great plant hunter.
Hope this helps. Good luck
Thanks for even more Nicola.
See you soon :-)
