Violet Bed Summer

This fence-line planting began as a `blooming hedgerow´ running straight down the property line and around the pecan tree. The majority of flowering occurred from early blooming shrubs and bulbs, while several clematis contributed later. When the gazebo-cage was parked in the middle front, I decided to balance each side of the yard by extending a bay at the opposite end of the pecan tree bed. I chose my favored colors of lavender, purple, silver and violet that also lend a cooling effect though out our hot summer months.

I keep a Datura there to fragrance gazebo evenings with its nocturnal blooms, but the plant's rampant growth wants to smother everything else to death and must be snipped after each major flowering. A young smoke tree is working its way up to join the crape myrtles.
